On Monday, October 23, 2000 20 year-old Reginald Millsaps, a uniformed security officer, was making his rounds at a newly opened South-Central Los Angeles school, the Western Academy Community Education Center, when a single shot rang out. At 1:05 am, the 20 year old fell on the asphalt with a gunshot wound to his torso. Reginald died 40 minutes later giving his life to protect a school that operates a program that seeks to prevent first-time, teenage offenders from committing new crime. No suspect was identified and detectives are still seeking witnesses to help solve Reginald’s murder.
