Christopher J. Trakimas

Christopher J. Trakimas, a dedicated boiler mechanic for the School District of Philadelphia, passed away on May 18, 2016, at the age of 61, after bravely battling injuries he sustained in a tragic accident on the job.

On that day, Chris was responding to a call at Franklin S. Edmonds Elementary School when a boiler explosion caused catastrophic injuries. His actions that day reflected the same quiet courage and sense of duty he brought to his work every day—protecting the safety and comfort of the school community behind the scenes.

Today, we remember and honor Christopher Trakimas not just as a skilled and selfless employee, but as a father, husband, son, and friend. Chris was a devoted husband to Michelle, a loving father to Stephanie, Courtney (and her husband Michael), and Christopher Michael, and a proud grandfather to Anthony and Jaiden. Chris reminds us that it’s not only teachers who make schools work—it’s the entire family of educators, including those who labor behind the scenes to ensure that every child can learn in safety and comfort.
