Central to Theresa’s practice is the belief that classrooms should function as spaces of agency and belonging. Through initiatives such as the National History Day Contest and the Model Gary Convention, she has created opportunities for students to step into the roles of policymakers and advocates, engaging in research, debate, and consensus-building around real-world issues. In this environment, students are not passive recipients of knowledge, but active contributors to conversations about justice, equity, and community. They learn to navigate differing perspectives, build collective solutions, and recognize the power of their voices.
